Eight years after the original film was released we finally have a trailer for The Strangers. Even though the first film was made for only $9 million and grossed $80 million the sequel was caught in purgatory for years due to Relativity Media filing bankruptcy. It finally found a home with Fyzz. It certainly follows the model that Blumhouse has thrived upon.
In regards to casting, the creators decided to go a different direction and completely replace all the actors behind the mask. I was really disappointed in this decision mainly because Kip Weeks (baghead) actually defined a lot of characteristics of the role. From his walk to the mask itself.
The new trailer has a distinctly different feel from the original. It is lively, punchy, full of action and way less creepier overall in my opinion. To me it loses the appeal of what the original brought to the table. A slow burn horror film that relied heavily upon atmosphere, acting and sound design. I hate judging something simply from the trailer – but from the first look it appears to have a completely different tone overall.
‘The Strangers 2’ is a thrilling sequel that lives up to the hype of the original film. After financial troubles force them to move out of their house, a family of four try to make it through the night in a deserted trailer park while being hunted by the savage, ax-wielding, mask-wearing trio wrecking havoc once again.
The sequel has a current release date of March 9, 2018.
