NBC has ordered a 13-episode second season of its Bryan Fuller-created drama “Hannibal,” the network announced Thursday.
Though it has struggled in the ratings on Thursday nights, where last week it did a 1.0 rating in adults 18-49 and about 2.7 million viewers overall, it has been an especially strong performer in DVR playback. Also, with a median age of 45.6, it is the youngest-skewing drama on ABC, CBS or NBC.
“We’re so proud of Bryan’s vision for a show that is richly textured, psychologically complex, and very compelling,” NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said. “There are many great stories still to be told.”
Fuller has said that the second season of “Hannibal” would focus on the increasingly strained relationship between Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) and Will Graham (Hugh Dancy). The show would be available to NBC at midseason since the net has already locked in its fall schedule.
