It looks like we’ll get another shot in the arm of aliens invading ‘America in 2015 but this time it will be without the franchise star, Will Smith. Apparently he is to good to fight off Aliens for his country. Maybe if the Aliens were attacking the Church of Scientology he would change his mind?

While doing the rounds for his upcoming film ‘White House Down’, Director Emmerich spoke to The NY Daily News about why Smith isn’t coming back for ‘Independence Day 2’, which was once known as ‘ID Forever Part I’, as well as the possibility of others returning.

“Will Smith can not come back because he’s too expensive, but he’d also be too much of a marquee name. It would be too much. We have like maybe half of the people that you would know from the first film (in the script) and the other half people who are new.”

Seems like a bit of a dick move by Will Smith. Sure you deserve to get paid but you did just make that turd After Earth movie. It’s a shame considering Independence Day was one of the the films that made his career when he jumped from TV to film. When you see friends getting together to make film like This is the End and taking pay cuts to stay within budget you would think Smith could at least go down enough to be cast in the movie – even for a small role to get killed off early on.

Among those rumored to return are Bill Pullman, who will play the former POTUS Thomas J. Whitmore, and Jeff Goldblum, the smart-talking MIT grad who first discovers the alien transmission talking of an attack, but those are only two of the players. I

How disappointed are you that Will Smith won’t be returning for ‘Independence Day 2’? Do you think that he’s making the right choice by not taking part? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

‘Independence Day 2’ is currently scheduled to be released on July 3, 2015.
