Mark Hamill, Jeffrey Combs, and Doug Bradley on board for latest “Lovecraft” animated outing.

The H.P. Lovecraft the world knows today is a writer known for his misanthropy and sense of cosmic futility. But what if before that he was an adventurous little boy who went on adventures to save the world with his trusty companion “Spot?” This is the question Shout! Factory dared ask with their cult animated hit film Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom. Now they are doing it again with a follow-up film, Howard Lovecraft and the Undersea Kingdom. And they’re bringing along some horror icons worthy of running loose in Lovecraft’s alien worlds.

Shout! Factory’s Howard Lovecraft films are inspired by the graphic novels of Bruce Brown and Dwight L. MacPhearson and the first installment was written, directed, and produced by Sean Patrick O’Reilly. It brought with it some heavy-hitting voice talent in the form of Mark Hamill – a voice actor whose legendary take on the Joker would have been right at home in Lovecraft’s evil, inhuman world – and Ron Perlman – star of the bizarrely Lovecraftian Hellboy films. Horror icon Doug Bradley rounded out this power trio of talent with Jane Curtin tying it all together. Undersea Kingdom will see Hamill and Bradley reprising their roles as Dr. Henry Armitage and Nyarlathotep, respectively, with renowned thespian Christopher Plummer and Jeffrey Combs of Re-Animator fame joining the cast as well.

Howard Lovecraft and the Undersea Kingdom is scheduled for a late 2017 release. Until then, the casting announcements leave horror fans much to geek out over.
