Rumors that director Nicolas Winding Refn (DRIVE, ONLY GOD FORGIVES) is teaming up with William Lustig for a remake of Lustig’s cult classic MANIAC COP appear to be coming true.

Screen Daily is reporting that Paris-based sales and production powerhouse Wild Bunch has unveiled a packed Cannes slate which includes the MANIAC COP remake, adding that Ed Brubaker is set to pen the script. Ed is fresh off the Marvel blockbuster CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and should provide an interesting take on Officer Matt Cordell.

Winding Refn is producing alongside William Lustig, director of the original, and Wild Bunch. The director will be announced in Cannes. This is one remake I am excited for and we haven’t even reached the casting call yet! Who do you think would be good to revive Maniac Cop? Give us your suggestions!

“You have the right to remain silent, forever!” or at least until the remake happens!
