The second offsite party we attended was a happy hour for the release of a new horror comedy, Hell Baby, from the creators of Reno 911 Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Grant.
For lack of a better term, I’ll call it a “happy hour” since it began at 5:00 on Friday evening at a Gaslamp Distict bar called The Tipsy Crow. What the Insidious 2 Fan Experience from earlier in the week had in spectacle, the Hell Baby happy hour had in raucous fun.
Topless hags with sagging breasts dirty danced with hot young priests, cigarettes in hand, while servers brought appetizers and cocktails on round trays. They’re from the movie (the hags and priests, not the servers) I guess, as glimpses of them were shown during the trailer running in a loop on the televisions inside the bar. The movie stars Rob Corrdry and Leslie Bibb as a wedded couple who either/or move into a haunted house and have a possessed baby.
The leads were not in attendance; however, I had a nice conversation with co-star and very funny comedian Kumail Nanjiani. He apologized for being on his mobile device, but said his special was airing Saturday night and he was getting a lot of correspondence about it. We also met Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome, aka comedy-folk duo Garfunkel and Oates.
It was a fun, welcoming party reflecting the style of the movie and a perfect relaxer following a hectic day at Comic-Con. Following the happy hour DRC founder KC Canton was invited to a special screening of the film with the cast doing a Q&A afterwards. Review coming soon – Q&A is below.
