When MTV2 invaded Petco Park Thursday night at Comic-Con, they transformed it into an amusement park-like wonderland for hip, young kids of all ages.
The focal point was the giant stage beside the stadium where musical acts New Politics and Dillon Francis would eventually perform. But there were also metallic, beehive “domes” under which virtual reality experiences or silent discos occurred. Oh, and there was a Ferris wheel.
A lovely evening in San Diego, attendees could partake in any of the amusements for free, as well as eat two free items and drink three free beverages. (Of course you could pay for as many more as you wanted.) I sat on the main grassy hill to relax and enjoy the DJ. While I was unfamiliar with the bands that would perform, I recognized most of the dance songs in the mix. And I peeked in on the filming of the MTV series, Guy Code Honors.
In a slightly elevated VIP area, the cast of Teen Wolf frolicked, occasionally obliging the screaming fans by turning toward them for a quick photo. It was clear they were off the clock, though, when Dylan O’Brien, who plays Stiles on the show, got visibly frustrated by a young sweetheart asking him for an autograph. I wasn’t emitting high-pitched screams, but I did snap more than a few photos to share with readers on the site.
I must admit, the noticable abscene of a rumored appearance by Vin Diesel to discuss Riddick was a bit of a bummer.
All in all, MTV2’s Party in the Park was an oasis of fun in the middle of the chaos of Comic-Con. And you can never go wrong when a ferris wheel is involved!
