Taika Waititi seems to be inspired by his time with Disney and Marvel, because it appears he’s set to turn his New Zealand vampire mockumentary into its own cinematic universe. We’ve known about the werewolf spinoff for a little while, brilliantly titled ‘We’re Wolves’. This week he announced his plans to make an american version of ‘What We Do in The Shadows’, but this time it will before television. Waititi also announced his plans for a second Shadows spin-off centered on the two police officers from the first film. If you’ve never seen ‘What We Do in The Shadows’ Check out the hilarious (and NSFW) clip below:
The director told Fandango, “We’re trying to develop a U.S. version of What We Do in the Shadows,” he said. “You know, set here in the states, but a T.V. show.” Of the police officer’s spinoff he described it as “a sort of mockumentary X-Files [that takes place in] a certain small New Zealand town where they investigate paranormal activity.” He also promised that ‘We’re Wolves’ is still on it’s way. “We’re still trying to write that. We’re doing those [other shows] as well as trying to come up with ideas for this werewolf movie. It will happen!”
Waititi seems to be on top of the film world at the moment. His newest film, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, is set to open to over $100 million and has generated significantly more buzz than the two previous Thor films. He also apparently in negotiations to direct the long awaited live action ‘Akira’ adaptation. ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is being released on November 3, 2017 and is currently sitting at 96% on rotten tomatoes.
