When the new Friday the 13th film came out in 2009 I wasn’t expecting much but ultimately I ended up digging it. It wasn’t amazing but it brought us some kills to pay homage to the original films and I thought the underground tunnels Jason lived in at Camp Crystal Lake was a nice touch. There have been plans to follow it up with another film but for the last couple years it was just rumors. Until recently when we found out the follow-up would be released in 3-D or possibly found footage. While the first couple did have a lot of POV shots I just didn’t want to see them explore a found footage POV angle for the next film – or go 3-D for a money grab.

So the recent news from Platinum Dunes producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form told Omelete about the forthcoming Friday the 13th was refreshing and exciting!

“We did a reboot in 2009 and now in 2014 we are focusing on a different story of Jason,” says the rough translation. “This will not be a continuation of the 2009 film nor a remake of the original It’s just a different story.”

But the big news was hiding within the story, where the site Omelete claims that were told that;

“the film will likely take place during the 80′s because the producers want to recover the feel of the first film.”

What do you guys think about bringing the franchise back to the 80’s? Let us know in the comment section below.
