Move into a remote house they said. It will be fun they said. Didn’t we learn anything from ‘The Shining’ and how things can spiral out of control with supernatural spirits wandering around as your mind plays tricks on you in a remote location during the winter? No? Okay, cool.
Because that is exactly what happens in Netflix’s new horror flick ‘The Open House.’ The opening of a long winding snowy road leading to a vacant home reminded me a lot of ‘The Shining.’ Comparisons most likely end there. The story is about a mother and her teen son move to a relative’s vacation home following a tragedy, where eerie and unexplained forces conspire against them.
Some memorable and chilling quotes spoken during the trailer;
“Death. It’s like it moves in, and never leaves.”
This quote in particular reminded me a bit of another Netflix Original horror film, ‘I Am The Pretty Little Thing That Lives In The House.”
“The quiet out here can get real loud…”
While this quote reminds me something Jack Torrance might say.
You can take a tour of ‘The Open House’ for yourself on Netflix, January 19. Until then watch the trailer below.
