HBO Debuts Trailer for Stephen King Adaptation ‘The Outsider’

Another Stephen King novel is being adapted for TV and based on the trailer from HBO it looks fantastic.

The 10-episode series follows police detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn), as he sets out to investigate the mutilated body of 11-year-old Frankie Peterson found in the Georgia woods.

The trailer begins with the police arresting Jason Bateman for the young boys murder – but not everyone is convinced he is the right suspect. We have seen Bateman take on roles with dark undertones in the Netflix series ‘Ozark’ and to a lesser extent in comedies like ‘Game Night’ and ‘My Horrible Boss’. He can pull it off quite well and I can’t wait to see what he does in this role.

The mysterious circumstances surrounding this horrifying crime leads Ralph, still grieving the recent death of his own son, to bring in unorthodox private investigator Holly Gibney (Cynthia Erivo), whose uncanny abilities he hopes will help explain the unexplainable.

On a completely different note, I love when a series can sneak a fall festival into an episode. We see some cool vintage animals and bon fires in the trailer and I want to be there. Castle Rock did the same thing while celebrating 400 years since their city was established.

The cast includes Ben Mendelsohn, Cynthia Erivo, Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Julianne Nicholson, Yul Vázquez, Jeremy Bobb and Marc Menchaca.

‘The Outsider’ premieres on HBO January 12, 2019.
