Bloober Team and Anshar Studios’ psychological horror game, Layers of Fear, is now available. The franchise previously featured two main titles and several DLCs that gave fans new insights into the events of the games.
Layers of Fear will be the cumulative experience of the spine-chilling series with a new chapter following The Writer. By weaving together the previous titles and DLCs, Layers of Fear will give new and old fans a new look at how the stories are truly connected.
In addition to the new chapter, Layers of Fear is one of the first titles to utilize Unreal Engine 5. The title will also feature Ray Tracing, HDR, and 4k resolution. Along with the visual updates, the new title will bring a few new exciting elements to the experience.
In their demo released in May, fans were able to experience their introduction to The Writer and how she relates to the overarching storyline. Players were also introduced to one of the new mechanics: the hand lantern. The hand lantern allows players to banish ‘echoes’. ‘Echoes’ are glimpses of the past including wailing NPCs, characters from previous games taunting and chasing you, or strange items that will vanish after shining the lantern on them.
The Writer begins her story in an isolated and ghastly lighthouse. With the goal of completing her novel, The Writer begins to explore her surroundings during one of her breaks. During her look around, she finds The Painter’s Magnum Opus, and suddenly visions of the past cloud her reality.
