Announced during the PC Gaming Show, Variable State’s Deepest Fear, got its first trailer promising viewers a claustrophobic and unsettling horror experience. Uncover the mysteries behind your estranged father’s secret project to save mankind’s future.
Deepest Fear is a sci-fi horror shooter set in the underwater facility, Neptune, where a dormant entity has begun to awaken. Players take on the role of Dr. Danni Carroll as she navigates through the labyrinthine halls of the decaying facility while facing off against hostile creatures. Trapped far from rescue with a failing infrastructure, and shifting, submerged environments that change at a moment’s notice, players will have to use their wits to survive.
Variable State’s survival horror takes inspiration from iconic 80s horror action movies like The Abyss and John Carpenter’s The Thing. The game will feature a blend of ‘environmental puzzles, real-time fluid simulations, and high-stakes survival mechanics.’ Additionally, the real-time fluid simulations allow for the creatures to spawn from any source of water or submerged space within the hermetic confines of Neptune. It will also feature an original cinematic score from BAFTA-winning composter and studio co-director Lyndon Holland.
Deepest Fear will be available for PC via Steam. No release date has set.
