Beloved cinema icon, Indiana Jones has a long and storied history with the video game world, dating all the way back to 1982 with “Raiders of the Lost Ark” on the Atari, right through to 2009’s release, “The Staff of Kings”. The Indy games have varied in quality throughout the years, with many fondly remembering the LucasArts point and click adventures of the late 80’s and early 90’s but there have been some real high spots in Dr. Jone’s adventures in gaming; including the stellar “Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb” released on the original Xbox almost two decades ago.
It has been more than a decade and two console generations since Indy last appeared in a completely new game – not counting the many re-releases of “Lego Indiana Jones”.
In good news we finally have word that there is a new Indiana Jones game in development for next-gen platforms. In what can only be described as fantastic news, it comes from Bethesda-owned, MachineGames; the developers of the critically acclaimed Wolfenstein: The New Order, it’s standalone DLC, The Old Blood and sequel, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.
MachineGames managed to breathe life into a long forgotten franchise with The New Order back in 2014, so having them at the helm of a new Indy adventure is exciting indeed. Very little has been shared about the game but we do know that Todd Howard, of Bethesda will be serving on the game as executive producer and the company shared a (very small) teaser video that is sure to whet the appetites of many Indiana Jones fans, eager to step into the shoes of Dr. Jones once more.
Indiana Jones has not only been the subject of numerous games, but has also helped to inspire franchises like Tomb Raider and Uncharted. There is also the question of what platforms we will see the title on, with Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Bethesda. Will this new Indy title release exclusively on Xbox platforms and PC? Time will tell. We will be watching with baited breath, anyhow for more news on this title and we will be sure to keep you updated as any new info get’s released.
