Netflix has acquired the distribution rights to the upcoming sci-fi triller ‘Stowaway,’ directed by Joe Penna and co-written by Penna and Ryan Morrison.

As stated by Hollywood Reporter, film’s premise is as follows:

“The crew of a spaceship headed to Mars discovers an accidental stowaway shortly after takeoff. Too far from Earth to turn back and with resources quickly dwindling, the ship’s medical researcher emerges as the only dissenting voice against the group consensus that has already decided in favor of a grim outcome.”

The film stars Anna Kendrick (‘Up in the Air,’ ‘Pitch Perfect’) as the medical researcher, and Toni Collette (‘The Sixth Sense,’ ‘Hereditary’) as the ship’s commander. Also in the cast are Daniel Dae Kim (‘Insurgent,’ ‘Lost’) as the ship’s biologist and Shamier Anderson (‘Race,’ ‘Wynonna Earp’) as the stowaway.

Penna started his career on YouTube, and his last feature was 2018’s ‘Arctic,’ which starred Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (‘Hannibal,’ ‘The Hunt.’) Penna and Morrison also co-wrote ‘Arctic.’

No exact release date has been announced, but ‘Stowaway,’ is confirmed to be premiering sometime in the new year.
