In an official statement from IGN this morning, there’s not only one, but two Halloween games in the works. Although details are scarce, developer Boss Team Games gave fans a few exciting details on what to expect.
Both games will be based on the 1978 cult classic movie with connections to the original creators. Producers from the slasher franchise will work closely with the Evil Dead: The Game developer to create the chilling experience. Additionally, Compass International Pictures and Further Front will also consult. Of the two games, one game is in early development in Unreal Engine 5 with input from Halloween director John Carpenter. “As a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly,” said Carpenter.
What We Know
The games will allow players to “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters” from the iconic franchise. “Everyone at Boss Team Games are huge fans of horror and Halloween obviously holds a special place in the hearts of all horror fans,” said Boss Team Games CEO Steve Harris. “Getting to work with iconic characters like Michael Myers and build on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true. Everyone at Boss Team is thrilled and honored to be working with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to deliver one-of-a-kind experience that fans of the movie and video games will love.”
Halloween has already seen some previous adaptations. The original movie took inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho and Bob Clark’s Black Christmas. Alongside its thirteen movies, there are novels, comic books, and previous video games and appearances. The movies focus on Michael Myers after he escapes the sanitarium and his hunt in the town of Haddonfield, Illinois.
A previous video game from Wizard Video saw a release in 1983. Players took on the role of a babysitter trying to hide their kids from Myers after he entered their home. However, the game never refers to any characters by their names from the film. Myers has also appeared as DLC’s for Call of Duty and as a chapter in Dead by Daylight.
