Summer 2023 is shaping up to have quite a few horror games releasing from AAA and indie studios. In this article, we’ve searched and scoured online to bring you some exciting and innovative titles ranging from serial killers and aliens terrorizing your town to fighting off hordes of creatures.
June 1 – Killer Frequency
Team17 Digital’s first-person horror puzzle game, Killer Frequency, puts the player into the shoes of a late-night radio show host. However, as calls begin to roll in throughout the small town, you must make quick decisions to determine victims and suspects. You might just save your callers by using previous call histories, helpful manuals around your station, and solving riddles and puzzles.
Killer Frequency is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch, and Meta Quest 2.
June 6 – Amnesia: The Bunker
Frictional Games’ fourth installment of their Amnesia series, Amnesia: The Bunker, leaves players alone in a desolate World War 1 bunker. With only a few bullets, a dynamo flashlight, and meager supplies, players must navigate their escape and avoid the terrifying nightmare lurking around each corner.
Amnesia: The Bunker will be available for PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
June 8 – Undead Citadel
Pitted against hundreds of unrelenting undead, Dark Curry Games’ Undead Citadel kicks players into survival mode as you explore the citadel. Facing off against hordes, players can utilize various combat methods to fight their way through and uncover the secrets of the plague’s origin.
With over 60 different combat weapons, players can experience the adrenaline-pumping game in three game modes: Story Mode, Horde Mode, and Armory.
Undead Citadel is a VR exclusive and will be available on Steam.
June 9 – Greyhill Incident
Weather balloons, conspiracy theories, mistrusting the government – it’s the 90s! Refugium Games’ Greyhill Incident follows Ryan Baker as he sets out to aid a neighbor in crisis. But with a strange increase in paranormal activities, the community is scared to speak out against the government and forms its own watch group.
With only a baseball bat and a few spare bullets, Ryan must navigate through Greyhill to uncover the alien conspiracy and save his neighbors.
Greyhill Incident will be available on PC, PlayStation 4/5, and Xbox Series X|S.
June 14 – Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow
It’s not every day you wake up in a strange world with a living teddy bear by your side. In Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow, Griffin begins to experience visions of the past. With his now-alive teddy bear, Birly, Griffin has to find the courage to explore the scary new world, defeat monsters, and uncover the mysteries of his past.
Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow will be available for PC on Steam.
June 15 – Layers of Fear
Layers of Fear will be the final installment of the Fears horror franchise from Bloober Team. The fourth game will follow a new protagonist, The Writer, who begins to unravel how the previous installments are interconnected. Flashing between the storylines, players will relive the terrifying beginnings of the franchise and uncover something even more sinister.
Layers of Fear will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
June 20 – Aliens: Dark Descent
The squad-based RTS Aliens: Dark Descent allows players to command a squad of Colonial Marines against a Xenomorph outbreak. Focus Entertainment’s newest strategy game will see players face off against the famous Xenomorphs, operatives from Weyland-Yutani Corporation, and new terrifying creatures. However, players should be careful: enemies can adapt their tactics. Now only that, but watching over your teams’ health and sanity will be critical since death is permanent.
Aliens: Dark Descent will be available on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and for PC on Steam.
June 21 – Trepang2
Imagine this: waking up and being broken out of a black site. But you also have no memory of your past. Plus, you now have superhuman abilities. Trepang Studios’ Trepang2 is an action-packed FPS where you must fight your way out to uncover the truth behind your past. However, a looming and even deadlier threat lurks in the compound.
