If you’re going to show me a horror movie trailer that starts off with Brandy Norwood singing–I’m IN! Then you tell me it’s A24 and it’s religious horror? Insert the Vince McMahon getting increasingly excited meme here! The new trailer for ‘The Front Room’ sets up a newly pregnant couple who has taken in an ailing, estranged, step-mother. While this premise alone can be a horror story in many families, this elderly woman also happens to be incredibly overbearing and highly evangelical, a nightmare combo indeed. Kathryn Hunter looks absolutely menacing in the antagonist role. As the birth of their first child gets closer the couple are left to wonder if the potential payout of an inheritance is worth the torment they’ve taken on.
Another exciting note about ‘The Front Room’? It’s the directorial debut of Sam Eggers and Max Eggers, the brothers of Robert Eggers. The duo also took on the writing role adapting the screenplay from a story by Susan Hill of the same name. Genre fans will definitely be eager to see if the talent for terror runs in the family.
