Red Barrels will launch their first major update for The Outlast Trials, featuring a new villain. In addition to their newest villain, Franco “Il Bambino” Barbi, a new map, game mode, ability, and new Trials and MK-Challenges will also be available.
Touted as the “perverse son of New Orleans,” Franco Barbi is a psychosexual violent, entitled, and ‘big baby’ obsessed with his ‘Pacifier.’ However, this pacifier is a sawed-off shotgun that can take out Reagents from a distance. Franco will be the first gun-wielding villain in his home field, The Docks.
The Docks is the newest map coming to the sadistic world of The Outlast Trials and home to Franco’s drug manufacturing domain. Reagents will have to solve new puzzles and avoid Franco’s violent tantrums to survive.
The Bambino Special Event will run for a month after the update. Here, Barbi will appear in certain Trials alongside Mother Gooseberry or Sergeant Coyle, and in Trials and MK-Challenges set at his home map.
Franco Barbi Brings New Toys and Challenges
The new MK-Challenges will put Reagents to the test. Poison the Medicine puts Reagents face-to-face in Barbi’s home turf. Mansion Escape brings Regeants back to Farewell Mansion, where as Reagents are released, the difficulty evolves. Plus, there’s a brand new Ending if players succeed. Fuel the Release will require players to get fuel to power the court for an escape. Finally, Teach the Police Officer will have Reagents replace the precinct’s training film with a Murkoff reel.
Along with this update brings a new game mode, Escalation Therapy. This new rogue-lite game mode has Reagents face a never-ending series of random Trials and variators until Permadeath. Players will bring in nothing and must build their loadouts from a limited selection of upgrades where a longer survival brings bigger rewards.
Finally, a new player ability, The Barricade, and a new Lobby Mini-Game will also be available. The Barricade will allow Reagents to use their Rigs to block paths. This will give Reagents the time to finish their objectives while their pursuers must repath back to them. When not blocking paths, Reagents can enjoy the Stroop Effect Test. This will have Reagents test their reaction times when facing conflicting stimuli.
Chapter 3 of the Murkoff Collections will release July 16.
