Horror Games to Watch For in July 2023

There’s a hundred and four days of summer vacation, and there are plenty of new horror games coming out. Whether you want to find out the mystery behind your hometown and wander through alleged haunted forests to mowing down hordes of zombies and nostalgic but oddly psychopathic anthropomorphic puppets, we’ve got just the list of horror games coming out this July for you.

July 3 – Mundaun

Hidden Fields’ hand-drawn psychological horror game, Mundaun, follows Curdin as he tries to get answers about his grandfather’s death. Set in The Alps, Curdin’s journey quickly begins spiraling as he encounters conspiracies, cults, and strange creatures lurking around.

Mundaun is available on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

July 6 – GYLT

Set in a fictional mining town, GYLT follows Sally, a girl who, after her cousin goes missing, starts to see her worst fears and memories come to life. Players can choose to hide or face the nightmares as they uncover the mystery behind Sally’s cousin’s disappearance.

GYLT will be available on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and on PC.

July 7 – Presences: Dark Awakening

Explore a dark reality, uncover forgotten rituals, navigate underground chambers, and survive the terror. No big deal. In Cozy Marshmallow’s Presences: Dark Awakening, players are in for the haunt of their lives as they navigate the haunted house. Solve ancient puzzles, avoid ominous spirits, dodge deadly traps, and just maybe you’ll survive.

July 12 – Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals

Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals is the highly anticipated follow-up to Night School Studio’s Oxenfree. Set 5 years after the events of Oxenfree, a reluctant Riley returns to her hometown to investigate strange radio signals. After discovering the presence of the Parentage, a cult-like group trying to open a new portal, Riley must uncover their true intentions. Players can use the radio to communicate with supernatural beings, change the world around Riley, and travel back in time to save the future.

Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals will release on Netflix Games, PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch, and for PC on Steam.

July 13 – Yet Another Zombie Survivors

 

Although a virus has spread throughout the world, humanity hasn’t even up. Assemble your team and fight The Horde in Awesome Game Studio’s Yet Another Zombie Survivors. Players can control a lone SWAT soldier or a team of mercenaries to wipe out the swarms of unholy beings. As you fight, you can give permanent upgrades to your squad to aid in your fight and regain dominance in this bullet hell.

July 13 – Testament: The Order of High-Human

Set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world, Testament: The Order of High Human is a first-person action-adventure game from Fairyship Games. Following the betrayal of your brother, Arva, madness begins to spread across the realm. Players take on the role of the immortal King of High Humans, tasked with fighting for the survival of the realm. Face off against deranged followers, worshippers of a blood god, and finally confront Arva to reclaim the realm.

Testament: The Order of High Human will release on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

 

July 13 – Ed-0: Zombie Uprising

Taking place in Edo-era Japan, Ed-0: Zombie Uprising brings a new take on the Zombie survival genre. After the arrival of Black Ships consequently opening Japan to the world, zombies begin invading the country. As the Zombie infestation spreads, a group of people with special abilities causing them to be unaffected by the zombies appear. These Zom-beings – a Samurai, Sumo Wrestler, and a Ninja – begin their hunt to restore peace to Japan.

July 14 – Surrounded

Face off against deadly creatures, paranormal activities, and strange sightings in Nightmare Studios’ Surrounded. 30 years prior, a remote lab began conducting research into black matter and dark energy when their system had a meltdown, infecting the lands around them. After government officials were sent to check for survivors, none returned. In the present, a group of friends enters the woods chasing rumors of monsters lurking around. Taking on the role of one of the friends, working with up to six other players, you must face the horrors in the woods head-on.

July 17 – Trance, Trauma

Three hexagon rooms. Secret messages to decode. Questions to solve. Uncover the secrets behind the suicide of a woman and the events leading up to it in Trance, Trauma. Trance, Trauma is a dark point-and-click puzzle game from Trance Studio.

July 18 – My Friendly Neighborhood

Saturday morning cartoons are a staple in most childhoods. But sadly, as their audiences grow up, their viewership goes down until the studios broadcast one last episode, ending an era of kooky-faced educational puppets. But what happens when the broadcast signal suddenly starts playing again? Tasked with shutting down the signal, a repairman, Gordon, enters the studios of The Friendly Neighborhood. But soon, he finds a disturbing presence and must find his way out.

My Friendly Neighborhood will release to PC on Steam and Itch.io. A console release is anticipated for a later date.

July 18 – Xenonauts 2

Goldhawk Interactive’s Xenonauts 2 is a turn-based strategy game where players must fight back against an alien invasion. Work to build a global network of bases to weed out the invaders and achieve victory against the technologically superior foe.

July 18 – Bloodhound

Prepare to wage war against the forces of Hell in Kruger & Flint’s Productions’ Bloodhound. Inspired by game mechanics of the 90s, this macabre FPS features 16 distinctive enemies to test your skills as you protect the portals to Hell. As a member of the Order of Keepers of the Gates, face off against abominations and cultists determined to bring chaos to Earth.

July 19 – Blackout Protocol

Blackout Protocol begs the question: how bad can a day of work be? After a containment breach, you and your squad of coworkers must band together to fight against the strange creatures lurking in the shadows and uncover the truth about the company you work for.

July 20 – Unholy

Unveil the mystery behind the disappearance of your child in Duality Games’ Unholy. Explore parallel worlds – the grey and brutalist Eastern European town and the sinister world of Unholy. While exploring the Unholy world, use your emotions to interact with your environment or attack enemies. However, players must build and utilize masks – a choice that can mean life or death when facing enemies.

July 20 – Frank and Drake

Brought together by a conspiracy, Frank and Drake need to work together to uncover a mystery around their existence. Destined to never cross paths, Frank, a super of an apartment block, and Drake, who is allergic to sunlight, must communicate via sticky notes to survive.

Frank and Drake will launch on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and for PC on Steam.

July 20 – Homeseek

Homeseek is a post-apocalyptic survival game set in a dried-up Earth wasteland. Players must expand their settlements to produce valuable resources that are critical to survival. Every choice you make will impact your settlement – will what you bring back from scavenging ruin your settlement? Or will you prosper in the resource-strapped lands?

July 25 – Remnant II

Explore the unknown to stop evil forces from destroying reality in Remnant II. The highly anticipated sequel to Remnant: From the Ashes will pit players against a new slew of deadly enemies and god-like bosses. Fight against evil alone or you can team up with friends to ward off these creatures.

July 27 – The Expanse: A Telltale

Set before the events of the Expanse television series, players take on the role of Camina Drummer, the Executive Officer of a scavenger crew. As Drummer’s crew hunts for mysterious treasure on the edges of The Belt, there’s no end to opposing forces. Fearsome pirates, a mutiny, shipwrecks, and difficult decisions lay ahead as every decision will impact the fate of your crew.

July 27 – Lunacy: Saint Rhodes

You’re never alone and it’s never safe in Lunacy: Saint Rhodes. Navigate through your ancestral home and hometown to discover the truth behind your family’s murder. However, as you investigate, you descend deeper into insanity and horrifying creature begin to slither out from the woodwork.

While creatures may test your limits, Lunacy’s AI, The Author, will truly keep you on your toes. The Author will observe your gameplay and adapt, making your journey truly miserable.
