During Sony’s State of Play, Blumhouse Games’ first title, Fear the Spotlight. got a console release date. Fear the Spotlight is a third-person atmospheric horror following two friends who sneak into their school only to face a disturbing mystery.
The PS1 era-like title comes from husband and wife developer team Cozy Game Pals and takes players into the aftermath of a seance gone wrong. However, Vivian gets separated from Amy and is at the mercy of a wandering monster. Their high school soon becomes a nightmarish, derelict version of its former self. To survive the night, Vivian has a simple yet daunting task: avoid the monster’s spotlight-like gaze. While on the search for Amy, Vivian will also uncover the tragic events of a murder from decades before.
Fear the Spotlight will be the first title under Blumhouses’ interactive media arm to get published. The label surprised horror fans with their announcement of six horror games during Summer Games Fest. “Our upcoming titles represent standout storytelling, inventive play styles, and fresh approaches to scary stories, created by game developers who are deeply passionate about horror. We hope players see our collective love of the genre and indie creativity shine through our partners and our portfolio of games,” said President Zach Wood.
Fear the Spotlight releases to PlayStation 4/5 on October 22. Players who bought the original game on Steam will receive a free update with two hours of new content.
