The modern-day slasher continues to be alive and well thanks to Eli Roth and last week the man himself announced some great news: John Carver will return in 2025! Thanksgiving 2 has officially been greenlit over at Sony’s TriStar and here at Downright Creepy we’re pretty stoked.
Thanksgiving quickly jumped into the top slot for my favorite horror movie this year. It’s a super gory, buckets of fun throwback to the slashers of the 80s and 90s updated perfectly for the modern day. Eli Roth took his fake 2007 Grindhouse trailer and turned it into a bonafide slashic that critics and audiences have been raving about. As of this article it’s grossed $37 million worldwide which, for a solo horror film that’s not part of a franchise, is a huge success.
In case you missed it here’s the plot blurb for Thanksgiving: “After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the infamous holiday.”
Eli Roth and Jeff Rendell will be returning to write the screenplay and we can anticipate Thanksgiving 2 to carve it’s way into theaters in 2025! Keep an eye out here for more info as we get it and go see Thanksgiving in theaters while you still can!
