Netflix Thriller ‘Bird Box’ Has A Trailer & One Heck Of A Cast

Credit: Netflix

Occasionally, with the multitude of news stories hitting every hour, there’s a good chance that a film can creep up on us out of nowhere. From this trailer for the upcoming Netflix Original, Bird Box, it feels like we should have already known a bit about it. Take a peek to see why.

Yup, that’s Sandy B (Sandra Bullock for the regular person) herself in a Netflix film absolutely packed to the gills. We could spend most of this article listing the talented people involved here. We won’t so we’ll just point out this has John Malkovich, Sarah Paulson, Trevante Rhodes, Lil Rel Howley, Jackie Weaver, Tom Hollander and apparently Machine Gun Kelley.

That’s a lot of people in this film destined to be compared to A Quiet Place. Which seems unfair, but matches with how people will generally try to explain it to others. What it does have is an intriguing premise, bolstered by fun set pieces. There is something great in having another trailer come out that features a “terror in a car” sequence. This may turn out to be a growing trend, but if it’s done right, it’s hard to complain about

Here’s the full synopsis to the picture, based off the novel by Josh Malerman:

When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life.  Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary.”

The “it” in question above remains  unseen for the entire trailer. Seems like a good way to both save on budget costs, as well as setting up a big late reveal. Films like this usually hit it out of the park in that department, so hopefully Bird Boxfollows suit.

Making this Netflix picture even more enticing is the people involved behind the scenes. Oscar Winner Susanne Bier (In A Better World) helms the picture, while Oscar Nominee Eric Heisserer (Arrival) adapted the screenplay. The visuals come from cinematographer Salvatore Totino, who did Everest, Cinderella Man, guaranteeing the bleak future is captured gloriously.

This one follows Netflix’s latest trend of getting their original content in front of as many eyeballs as possible. It will release both on their streaming platform, as well as select theaters, on the same day. What do you think? Intrigued by the premise? Are you someone who signs up for anything Sandy B does? Bird Boxmay be one to watch over the holidays, as it comes out December 21st. In the meantime, here’s the film’s poster.
