Shortly after premiering during a panel at this year’s Midsummer Scream, the first official trailer for ‘Saw X’ is now online. Returning to direct is ‘Saw’ veteran Kevin Greutert, who directed both ‘Saw VI’ (2009) and ‘Saw 3-D’ (2010). Now, Greutert takes us back in time to a sort of “Saw 1½”, with the events of this tenth installment taking place between ‘Saw’ and ‘Saw II.’
According to the filmmakers speaking at the panel— which included director Kevin Greutert, production designer Anthony Stabley, cinematographer Nick Matthews, and producer Oren Koules— ‘Saw X’ will be the longest film in the franchise thus far. This would mean surpassing Saw III‘s 1-hour-and-48-minute runtime, possibly hitting the 2 hour mark.
Stressed by the filmmakers was the fact that ‘Saw X’ will be John Kramer’s most personal story, which is made abundantly clear in the trailer.
” Set between the events of SAW I and II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer – only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, John returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through a series of ingenious and terrifying traps.”
In addition to the return of Tobin Bell’s John Kramer, actor Shawnee Smith is reprising her role as fan-favorite Amanda. In that pig mask, coat combo, Amanda is back and as killer as ever. Take a peak under the mask yourself, and watch the full trailer below.
The film will release in theaters on September 29, 2023.
