After bringing to life Alvin Schwartz’ haunting creatures in 2019’s ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark‘, 4 years later, Andre Øvredal is releasing his newest film ‘The Last Voyage of the Demeter‘ this week in theaters.
‘Scary Stories’, a successful, PG-13 horror film, left a mark at the box office and in people’s minds for being an accessible, but still gnarly adaptation of the popular children’s book. Not long after it’s release, talks of a sequel followed. This felt almost inevitable, especially with the cliffhanger ending, suggesting there being much more to be done after the credits.

During an interview with IGN about his newest film, Øvredal gave some insight into where the ‘Scary Stories’ sequel currently stands.
“We have a story. We have a script. We’ve been working on the script as late as last year and even slightly into this year.
“The process obviously stopped with the strike — but it’s alive, for sure. COVID and then [Demeter] eating up two years of my life certainly put a dent in the progress.”
After producing the first film, Guillermo del Toro seems to once again be on board, but this time with a ‘story by’ credit.
With three Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books in total, what new stories might we see in the upcoming film?
