Christina Ricci seems to nail every role she takes on but her childhood portrayal of Wednesday Addams in the 1990s ‘Addams Family’ franchise films is downright iconic. While she won’t be reprising that role, it was announced this week that she has joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix series ‘Wednesday’. The particulars of Ricci’s role are being kept a surprise for now, but she will be playing an all new character, not an older version of Wednesday or Morticia as had been speculated.
The series has a lot going for it in addition to the inclusion of Ricci. Tim Burton is the producer and director and the team of Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) are handling the writing and showrunning. Horror fan favorite Jenna Ortega (‘X’, ‘Scream’) will be playing Wednesday as this series is set to be a coming-of-age story. The action will take place at Nevermore Academy as Wednesday works on solving mysteries while trying to get through high school.
Additional casting excitement includes Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams. Filming is slated to wrap at the end of this month, but now air date has been announced yet. ‘Wednesday’ will stream exclusively on Netflix and the debut season will have eight episodes.
