I’ll be honest, when a new movie announcement leads with “starring Maika Monroe” I’ve already heard all I need to know to get me to the theater. But in case you need a little more than that, the debut trailer for ‘God Is A Bullet’ should do the trick. Monroe is almost unrecognizable as a tattooed cult kidnapping survivor who helps a detective, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (‘Game Of Thrones’), get his missing daughter back from those who changed her life forever. Still need more? Jamie Foxx is in the mix too! Billed as an action-thriller the trailer brings full on horror levels of brutality including non-consensual face tattoos and a reference to human sacrifice. The fact that the trailer starts with the ole “Inspired by True Events” has me wondering just how much of this really happened!
‘God Is A Bullet’ is written and directed by Nick Cassavetes (‘The Notebook’) and based on the best selling novel by Boston Teran. The cast is rounded out by January Jones (‘Mad Men’), Ethan Suplee (‘Remember The Titans’), Paul Johansson (‘One Tree Hill’), Karl Glusman (‘Watcher’) and Jonathan Tucker (‘Snowfall’). Cassavetes says “I’ve been trying to tell this great story for the last 18+ years. It’s tough, violent, has two flawed and fantastic characters, and absolutely pulls no punches. I love it! There’s nothing else out there like it, not even close!”
‘God Is A Bullet’ comes to theaters on June 23, 2023.
SYNOPSIS:
‘God Is A Bullet’ follows detective Bob Hightower (Coster-Waldau), who finds his ex-wife murdered and his daughter kidnapped by an insidious cult. With the help of the cult’s only female victim escapee, Case Hardin (Monroe), Bob and Case go down the rabbit hole with The Ferryman (Foxx) to save his daughter and find closure for Case from the cult – and its maniacal leader (Karl Glusman) – that took so much away from her.
