As ‘Longlegs’ dominates the horror box office, NEON continues to play in the genre with their latest pickup, ‘Shelby Oaks.’
NEON has acquired worldwide rights to the film, the debut feature from director and YouTube creator Chris Stuckmann, Deadline reported.
The sale follows what’s already been a thrilling journey behind the creation of the film. In 2022, ‘Shelby Oaks’ became the most-funded horror film ever on Kickstarter. The campaign raised $1.39M for the project in under a month as a result of Stuckmann’s dedicated YouTube following. And in the spring, modern horror mainstay Mike Flanagan (‘Doctor Sleep,’ ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’) signed onto ‘Shelby Oaks’ as executive producer.
Here are the plot details as told by the original Kickstarter campaign:
“Shot as a traditional feature, but with some elements of found footage, Shelby Oaks is a horror film about missing paranormal investigators (The Paranormal Paranoids), the dark legacy they uncovered, and the far-reaching effects their investigation has as Mia searches for her sister Riley, the lead paranormal investigator, 12 years later.
As Mia uncovers new and disturbing leads related to Riley’s disappearance, she uncovers evidence of a hidden supernatural evil dating all the way back to her and Riley’s childhood.”
The film stars Camille Sullivan (‘Hunter Hunter’), Brendan Sexton III (‘Don’t Breathe 2’) and Sarah Durn (‘Where the Crawdads Sing’). The film is both written and directed by Chris Stuckmann, and produced by Paper Street Pictures.
‘Shelby Oaks’ will have its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival this weekend, with a theatrical release to follow at a later date. No details on the NEON release have been announced yet.
