‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Gets the Greenlight from Netflix

When it aired in 2021 Squid Game quickly became Netflixs’ most popular show ever. Given that, I don’t think its season two greenlight comes as a surprise. The streaming giant recently announced the news but creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed in November 2021 that he was already developing a new season.

The recent renewal announcement came with a note from Dong-hyuk with the tagline “A WHOLE NEW ROUND IS COMING”. He also said:

“As the writer, director, and producer of Squid Game, a huge shoutout to the fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”

In addition to the praise, Dong-hyuk revealed that Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is returning as well as The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun). He also dropped that we’ll be meeting Young-hee’s (yes, that giant doll) boyfriend Cheol-su. That’s all we know about season two, but I’m sure more will be revealed as they start filming.

In more Squid Game related news, Netflix also announced a real-life game based on the series. Titled “Squid Game: The Challenge” it boasts being the biggest reality competition show ever. Like the fictional show, it will have 456 participants competing for $4.56 million. It’ll feature puzzles and games inspired by the show plus new unique ones. In this version, no one is on the literal chopping block so if they fail they simply don’t get any money. The show is casting now, more info on that can be found here: squidgamecasting.com.
