In a sea of never ending sequels and remakes, it takes something rather special to get people’s attention. Enter Suspiria, Luca Guadagnino’s (I Am Love) updating/remake of Dario Argento’s 1977 classic. You may balk at that idea and no one would blame you. A task like that may seem monumental, but now that we have the first trailer for the film, we can start the prejudging stage of things. In all likelihood, based on the below, the property is in good hands. Behold.

Well, that’s sure to get the blood going today. Truth be told there is a wealth of tantalizing imagery on display. While this is a remake, it definitely feels like the talent behind this take on Suspria are for certain going their own route. Here’s the official synopsis for those not in the know:

“As a darkness builds at the center of a world-renown dance company, its artistic director (Tilda Swinton), a young American new to the troupe (Dakota Johnson), and a grieving psychotherapist become entangled in a bloody, sighing nightmare.”

In addition to the actors listed above the cast also features Chloë Grace Moretz, Sylvie Testud, Mia Goth and star of the original film Jessica Harper. If for some reason that doesn’t have you trembling with anticipation, the soundtrack is being done by none other than Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke. The script was done by David Kajganich, who teamed up last with Guadagnino on A Bigger Splash. Going on pedigree alone, this is one fall release not to be missed.

Now, yes, we understand that a move like this may be divisive (the end product will be met by scorn regardless), but what’s shown above is very very very enticing. It doesn’t look as bombastic as what Argento did before, though to be fair, nothing should be.

When the film was originally announced there was a fair bit of skepticism thrown its way. After the success Guadagnino had with Call Me By Your Name, mixed with this trailer, along with the bevy of posters that have been released (the official one is below), anticipation can only grow to a fever pitch, at this point.

Suspiria arrives to contanminate our souls on November 2nd.
