Star Ethan Hawke, director Scott Derrickson, and writer C. Robert Cargill, the team behind ‘Sinister’, have reunited for another venture into terror.

Their new film entitled ‘The Black Phone’ follows “Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.”

In the recently dropped trailer, Hawke is no longer playing the hero as he takes on the role of kidnapper. Clad in a haunting mask, Hawke seems ready to enter the pantheon of horror villains. The film also stars newcomer Mason Thames as Finney and Madeleine McGraw as a friend having psychic visions of where Finney may be.

The Black Phone’ is based on a short story by author Joe Hill, Son of Stephen King. It will be released to theaters on February 4th by Blumhouse.
