In this review, we dive into the unique aspects of the game, highlighting what we found the most interesting. For those considering going into the world of Deceit, there are a few crucial points to keep in mind.

Set in a dark and unsettling atmosphere, players’ abilities are tested to try and distinguish between friend and foe. Each round, players are randomly assigned a role as Infected or Survivor. Where the Infected players must secretly eliminate Survivors while keeping their true identities hidden. Similarly, Survivors must work together to stay alive and escape the infected threat. As well as identify who are the Infected.

Gameplay

In Deceit 2, a typical round unfolds in two phases. First, the players are divided into the Innocent and Infected and must solve simple puzzles to complete tasks and earn Souls. Souls can then be used to buy items and abilities at the Blood Altars. Additionally, a round comes to an end when the players enter the reality phase allowing the Infected to transform and hunt down the players. Next, all participants engage in intense discussions and voting sessions, aiming to identify and eliminate the deceiving members. Similarly, players must try to avoid getting voted out themselves, all within a tense atmosphere of mistrust and suspense.

Voice Communication is Key

The game shines brightest when players embrace communication as an essential tool for survival. The game revolves around social deduction, where players must work together to identify and eliminate deceitful enemies. Voice chat is not just recommended; it’s practically mandatory. Those who choose not to use a microphone will find themselves at a significant disadvantage. Moreover, the inability to communicate effectively can lead to distrust among fellow players. Making it challenging to form alliances and work as a team.

Learning Curve

An aspect of the game that players should be aware of is its steep learning curve. When you first jump into the game, you might feel overwhelmed by its mechanics, objectives, and other parts of the gameplay. With that in mind, expect a few frustrating rounds as you try to adapt to the new environment and learn to recognize the signs of deception.

Tutorial Needed

While there is an explanation video that covers the basics, it falls short of providing the hands-on tutorial needed for new players. A more structured tutorial would greatly benefit newcomers by easing them into the game’s mechanics, before playing an actual game. This would likely reduce the initial frustration experienced by many new players instead of having to rely on other team members for information.

Final Thoughts

Deceit 2 offers a thrilling multiplayer experience filled with suspense, strategy, and psychological tension. The game’s reliance on voice communication creates an environment where trust and betrayal come to life, making it a standout in the genre. What’s more it’s social deduction gameplay compares to other games in the same genre, such as Dead by Daylight. However, it’s important to recognize that the game’s learning curve can be steep, and the absence of a comprehensive tutorial can be a bit of a hurdle to get over for some new players. Investing time into mastering the gameplay mechanics gives players’ a rewarding horrifying yet satisfying experience.
