Silent Hill fans rejoice; another installment of Silent Hill is gracing us with its presence.

Now, looking at the title of this new installment in the game franchise, the highlight is a red f in the title. The “F” in the title resembles the musical sign for forte. In music, this symbol means loud; therefore, Silent Hill F could represent this in some capacity.

Exactly what Forte’s implications for the plot or gameplay remain to be seen. One might interpret it as a warning.

The trailer suggests the story unfolds in Japan during the Shōwa period (1926–1989). This indicates that the game is a prequel to the original Silent Hill, taking place many years before it. Although the game won’t be set in the titular town, it will probably have some connection to it by the end.

Silent Hill: F features a unique setting in the 1960s, moving the franchise away from the iconic town of “Silent Hill.” Instead, the story takes place in Japan and follows the main character, Hinako Shimizu, a student who must navigate a mysterious and deadly fog that has enveloped her hometown.

As ever with Silent Hill, this beautiful corruption is likely to be literal and metaphoric.

In the Silent Hill games, the creatures and eerie settings often manifest the main characters’ deepest fears and anxieties. The enemies encountered in the early games are based on the protagonist’s demons, such as guilt or fear. A cult’s failed attempt to revive its deity oa n sacred native land curses the town, corrupting the area’s power.

The later installments took place in other American towns, similar to Silent Hill. For the first time, Silent Hill takes the series outside of the U.S., demonstrating that sinister evil can exist anywhere. Silent Hill games can feature diverse locations and elements, offering greater variety and breaking away from the usual urban setting.

Konami set the release date for September 25, 2025. It will be available on console platforms such as PS5, Xbox Series, and Steam.
